Judge Charles Hayden
Judge Charles Hayden was elected to the Philadelphia Municipal Court in 2009. He serves (or has served) on the Executive Committee, Board of Governors, Education Committee, Access to Justice Committee, Diversity Committee and as Historian of the American Judges Association (AJA) and he was the Co-Chair of the 2022 AJA Annual Conference held in Philadelphia, Pa.
Since joining the bench, he has worked on many local, state, and national projects and committees, most notably, he was nominated by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and selected for a national initiative -- the Blueprint for Racial Justice -- to work toward improving racial justice, equity, and inclusion in the justice system. From 2011 to 2019, he was the Coordinating Judge for the Accelerated Misdemeanor Program (AMP) and since January 2020 he has been the Coordinating Judge for the TCY Program.
Judge Hayden has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions including the A. Leon Higginbotham Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association Minority Bar Committee (2023) and the Pennsylvania Professional Excellence Legal Award from ALM (2023).
